“Doula Services. Family Planning. Childbirth Education.”
Hi! I’m Elizabeth
I’m blessed to be the mom to a rambunctious and hilarious toddler named Geoffrey and a wife to a loving and compassionate husband named Geoff. I grew up in Overland Park, Kansas and graduated from Bishop Miege High School in 2003. I attended Benedictine College for 2 years and transferred to Johnson County Community College where I’ve been attending, part time, since 2005. In 2005 I became a Certified Nurse’s Aid and a Phlebotomist with the intention of becoming a Labor & Delivery Nurse and then a Certified Nurse Midwife. God threw a wrench in the gears when we became pregnant in 2007…
Read MoreMy personal birth story is not as important as the knowledge I gained from the experience I had. Although I did not have the birth I desired, the amount of knowledge I’ve gained, the amazing people I’ve met, and the soul-searching and healing I’ve done along that way are priceless.
If someone asked me if I could relive, redo, and “perfect” my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience with my son Geoffrey, but NOT gain the same insight, I’d definitely say no.
It retrospect, my husband and I agree that attending a more in-depth and more naturally-minded childbirth education class would have helped us both to gain better understanding and vision for our ideal labor, delivery, and postpartum. Forming a solid support system and hiring a Birth and Postpartum Doula would have boosted my self-esteem, reassured both my husband and me, and aided in our comfort and support. I probably would have had a less instense labor, a less challenging birth, and a more positive postpartum experience. I also believe I would have continued to breastfeed longer.
The point is not that I “could have…” if I “would have…” The point is that I did things the way I did for a reason and now I am using my knowledge and resources to share with other women to empower and encourage them so they may have the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience they invision.
I am excited and honored to join you on your birth journey and excitedly await the birth debut of your precious angel.
Read MoreAn Antepartum doula specializes in supporting women going through a high-risk or difficult pregnancy. They support their clients in a number of ways. If a woman is on bed rest, an antepartum doula can help much like a postpartum doula helps a new mother – cooking meals, light housework, helping the mother organize things for the new baby, and, most importantly, providing emotional and informational support.
A Birth Doula is someone who provides non-medical and non-midwifery support (physical and emotional) to a woman leading up to and during her labor and delivery.
